Description



The Direct Support Professional Specialist at Supportive Living NW (“SLNW” or the “Company”) is responsible for providing individualized support to individuals with developmental disabilities, enabling them to live as independently as possible. This role combines direct care responsibilities with field support, ensuring clients receive high-quality, person-centered services and Direct Support Professionals are supported in their work. The Direct Support Professional Specialist will work in a home setting, assisting with daily living activities, promoting personal growth, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment. The Direct Support Professional Specialist reports to the Quality Assurance Manager (the “QAMs”).

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow the client specific support plans to promote personal growth and independence in the clients; provide feedback to change, augment, or refine the IISP.
  • Ensure the client’s safety and well-being, particularly during challenging moments or behavioral outbursts, balanced with respecting the client’s individual rights.
  • Teach and assist, when necessary, with activities of daily living, such as bathing, cleaning, cooking, grooming, meal preparation, personal hygiene, and toileting.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized living environment.
  • Monitor and administer medications, as prescribed; document and report any missed medications or other medication errors.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation, including incident reports, progress notes, and daily logs.
  • Accompany, support, and encourage the client to participate in outings and community activities, such as shopping, dining, and recreational events.
  • Assist or provide transportation and ensure safety during outings.
  • Cover open shifts to ensure clients receive uninterrupted services.
  • Monitor DSP performance in the field, provide feedback, and report concerns to the Quality Assurance Managers.
  • Report changes in client health, behavior, or home conditions promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personal information.
  • Other duties as needed based on the evolving business needs.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS.

  • Patience, compassion, and a commitment to providing quality support to the clients
  • Comprehensive understanding of client’s support needs and behaviors; continuous review of the IISP
  • Proficiency in healthcare software applications
  • Demonstrated fluency in the English language (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to pass a background check in compliance with WAC 246-335.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • No experience required (preferred)
  • Reliable vehicle with auto insurance and a clean driving record
  • Completion of required training programs as specified by WAC 246-335.
  • Current certification as a Home Care Aide (HCA) or Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) as required by state regulations.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
